Animation from Sanpo Matsumoto’s urban folklore animation project. It is part of a short animation series project ANIMATION HAIKU, based on a spiritual concept of Tsukumo-gami, a concept originating from Japanese folklore. The term is generally applied to virtually any object, that has reached their 100th birthday and thus become alive and self-aware. In Japan, we can see many old paintings on this theme. An old pot, an umbrella, or all sorts of antiques become alive and walk around at midnight. They are also called YO-KAI. In the Tsukumogami series, Sanpo creates stories inspired by forgotten objects in a contemporary society.
